A few days ago I stumbled across an unbelievably catchy song called “Shopping Penguin”. The video that went along with the song I saw on Youtube was a minute and change and song played over some clips of the Oliver Oken character from the Hannah Montana show. I thought this is a really funny and catchy tune and what a bizarre and random subject matter to tie the song to. What did Oliver Oken have to do with a shopping penguin? Oh well I thought it was late, I was amused and that was that. Or so I thought. As my daughter and I have been singing the song virtually non-stop for the past 48 hours I felt compelled to look into this a bit further and lo and behold I believe I have found the source of Shopping Penguin . The song is by silly song writer Parry Gripp who is singing about one of my favorite real life penguin stories of all-time, Lala the Japanese Penguin who loves to shop (for fish of course), and as the song goes “is never gonna to stop”. Perfectly silly song for a perfectly silly penguin story.
