Royal Couple Adopt A Penguin

They’ve been married for just over one week, yet Prince William and Princess Catherine have already adopted! Well, sort of. The Penguin Posthas learned that the royal couple has adopted an endangered baby Humboldt penguin named Acorn, England’s Chester Zoo announced on Friday. Though the charming couple has taken the baby bird under their royal wings, Acorn will not be moving in – the young penguin will remain at Chester Zoo, where zookeepers will care for him and 49 other Humboldt penguins. However, William and Catherine will have full visitation rights. “Hopefully the happy couple will come and see little Acorn playing in his pool very soon,” said a spokesman for the zoo, which gave the penguin to the pair as a wedding gift. “It’s a real honor to be able to boast Prince William and Kate as penguin adopters.” Little Acorn was chosen as the animal for the newlyweds to sponsor after the zoo posted polls on social networking sites asking followers to vote for one of 400 species. The Humboldt penguin species – which is rapidly declining in number due to loss of habitat and overfishing – won more than 20 percent of the votes.

Little Acorn won't be moving into the palace soon.
